Weekend Trip

Bryson had the whole week of the 4th of July off. What a great deal! Everyone at Adobe gets this whole week off! So, we decided to take advantage of one of the last times we might have for just the two of us to get away (without baby). We packed up a cooler full of snacks and packed a picnic lunch and drove down the coast on Highway 1 to Santa Cruz.

The weather in Santa Cruz was beautiful and we loved walking down the boardwalk and down the wharf to see the sea lions. The sea lions here were SO close to us (especially compared to Pier 39 in San Francisco) and I was so upset that I had left my camera in the car. I snapped a few pictures on my cell phone (hence the horrible quality). Oh well. :) They were SO cute!! We even saw a SEA OTTER! It was honestly the cutest thing I've ever seen - it was swimming on it's back HOLDING A BABY on its little stomach! Again, I was kicking myself for not having my camera!! Precious!

We decided that since we were already this far down the coast, we should keep driving to Monterey. By the time we got to Monterey, the fog had rolled in and it was cloudy and pretty chilly. But, we loved walking down Cannery Row and seeing all the shops and sampling the clam chowder (best I've EVER had!)

After Monterey, we drove a couple miles south to Carmel. We stopped on Ocean Avenue in "Carmel By the Sea." Wow...Carmel was definitely the most "elite" and we felt very extravagant as we walked down the streets lined with expensive cars and fancy restaurants.  We visited a couple bed and breakfasts/inns and definitely learned of the "high life." They were beautiful! We drove down to the beach and Bryson was excited to see Pebble Beach in the background (which means nothing to me, but apparently it is famous haha). We chose a restaurant and ordered the cheapest things on the menu and enjoyed our fancy meal. :)

That night, we drove home (after getting lost a few times - we really need to invest in a GPS haha) and slept like babies! We were wiped out! :) It was such a fun trip! I can't wait to take visitors! :)

What a fun trip and nice places to explore. Even your cell phone pictures reveal the beauty of the area.
