6 months - Half Birthday Baby!

Dear Ava,

You turned 6 months on March 29th. Happy Half-Birthday! We had your 6 month checkup and it was confirmed what we already suspected ... you are one tall babe! You are 28.25 inches long. That's the 99.5th percentile on the growth chart. That means if you were in a room with 100 babies your age, only .5 of them would be taller than you (that's half a baby, which of course isn't even possible). :) I think you are destined to be either a super-model or a basketball player. Just sayin'. :)

This month, we started you on pureed foods and, as usual, you love your food! You are now weighing in at 18 lb 14.4 oz (95th percentile). If you were in that same room with those same 100 babies, you would probably steal all of their lunches. You have been trying everything we've given you. Your favorites are bananas, apples, mangos, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Especially bananas and mangos - you go nuts over those. You don't prefer green beans or peas and you make a funny face and look so confused as if to say, "Whhaaat is that?"

Your weight to height percentile is 40th. That means that if you were in a room with 100 babies your same height, 60 of them would weigh more than you. That means you are long and lean. Get ready to have nicknames like "Long Leg String Bean" just like your mom did when she was growing up. You take after your mom when it comes to height and weight as a baby. I was 19 pounds 4 oz, and 29 inches long at 6 months (even heavier and longer than you). And I stopped growing at a good 5'8". Still up in the air as far as weight goes, though. ;)

Here is what else you've been up to this month:

-You are in size 3 diapers, 6-9 month or 9 month clothing. (Tall girl!)
-Without your swaddle, you are now free to roll onto your side easily at night. You love to snuggle up with your fuzzy blanket.
-You are starting to put your pacifier back in your mouth by yourself when it falls out. You prefer to put it in upside-down or sideways.
-You love your toys and you love to play. You are always searching for a toy to play with. You like to take your toys and turn them over to touch the tags. No matter how colorful or loud a toy is, the tags are more interesting to you. And of course, everything goes directly into your mouth.
-You started saying "Dah dah dah." Or sometimes "thuh thuh thuh" with your tongue sticking out.
-You stand! But only if you are holding onto something, like the side of a table or the couch. One time you even pulled yourself up from sitting down; but that was only once.
-You have made a new friend with a baby that I watch a couple days a week. You love to watch her crawl around and make noise. You watch in fascination and as soon as she comes near you, you smile so big and reach out to touch her hair. :)
-This month we went to Southern California to visit the Webster side of the family. You had your first visit to Disneyland (which was Mom's first time too) and you had SO much fun! You especially loved the tram ride from the parking spot to the park. You also loved It's a Small World and Jungle Cruise. You were laughing and smiling the whole time on those rides. It was a great day!

You are now officially on a fairly regular schedule! You eat every 3.5 - 4 hours. You wake up between 8:30 and 9:00am, nap at 11:00am and then again at 3:00pm for 1.5-2 hours each. You always go down like a champ. I will hear you talking to yourself for a few minutes in your crib and then all of a sudden, silence. When I go in to check on you, you are sprawled out in some crazy position, fast asleep. After your bath at 8:30pm, pajamas and a story, Daddy feeds you a bottle at 9:00pm and then you are down for the night. You usually only wake up one time throughout the night, looking for your pacifier. And then it starts all over the next day.

We can’t believe it’s been half a year already. I’m excited to see what you have in store for us in the next half!  It’s all about having fun and learning how to use those extra limbs to do cool new stuff.
Love you so much, Ava Sophia. Please stay so sweet!
Mama
